Legendary West Indian wicketkeeper Jeffrey Dujon had praised Dhoni last week, saying he admired the India skipper for his efficient wicket-keeping and for all-round skills.

“It’s a big compliment for me. I am more of a package than a specialist. I’m neither an extraordinary batsman nor a specialist keeper,” Dhoni said smilingly when asked to react to Dujon’s comments.

“It’s all about doing the things right. It does not matter how you catch the ball, take the edges and do stumpings. It’s important to score at that point of the time as it’s really good for the side.

“I’m really happy for the compliments. It’s a constant process. I hope to keep doing well and keep grooming the department you specialise. I hope I will be a specialist one day,” he said.

Dhoni has scored 10,363 runs across the three formats of the game and recently surpassed Syed Kirmani to become India’s most successful wicketkeeper in Tests with more than 200 wickets.

He is ranked seventh in the list of wicketkeepers with highest dismissals. He has 465 scalps to his name.

Dhoni, who has scored 3,386 runs in Tests so far, notched up a Test century after a gap of 21 months and the Indian skipper credited the top-order for putting up a good platform.

“He ( Kemar Roach) got me out thrice. It was a good wicket to bat on. From the pavillion end, you had a bit of assistance for the pacers. After a good start, the way Rahul played with Laxman it gave us a position where the lower order comes in and tries to score runs at a brisk pace.

“Initially I tried to play big shots. But it didn’t pay off. Then I gave myself a bit more time and once I was set, we decided the need to accelerate a bit.

“Later on when their bowlers were tired… Bishoo was bowling a negative line around the wicket with Samuels at the other end, we felt this is the time to capitalise and get as many runs possible. We thought it would not be as easy to bat on in the fourth innings. Overall a good innings for me,” Dhoni said.

India had centuries from Rahul Dravid (119), VVS Laxman (176) and Dhoni (144) after Gautam Gambhir (65) and Virender Sehwag (38) gave a flying start to declare the first innings for 631/7.

West Indies were made to follow on after being bundled out for 153 in their first innings as India coasted to an innings and 15-run victory to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series.

In another post, the Kingfisher Airlines chairman said, “Is it Kingfishers duty 2 fly on loss making routes when State Governments tax heavily? Or should v be financially prudent n fly profitably?”

Kingfisher airlines on Friday said it has not asked for a bailout from the government but admitted requesting banks to increase the loan limits to enable it meet rising operating costs due to increase in fuel prices and rupee devaluation.

“Kingfisher has not made any bail out request to the government. We have only asked our banks for an increase in limits due to significant increase in operating costs caused by increase in fuel prices and rupee devaluation,” Sanjay Aggarwal, CEO, Kingfisher Airlines, said tonight in a statement.

On the DGCA showcause notice on flight cancellations, he said: “We did not feel the need for informing DGCA. In hindsight, we should have informed them and we apologised to them for the same.”

On speculation about the closure of the airlines, he said Kingfisher does not see any risk to its future or long term viability.

Though the airline had maintained that the flight operations will normalise after November 19, the reconfiguration initiative will require up to three aircraft to be out of service over the next three months at any one time for this exercise to be completed.

“It will reduce the number of fleet configurations from 7 to 3, improving operational flexibility. This initiative will add more seats to the fleet, improving revenue production of each aircraft,” he said.

The carbon fibre in the i3 city car and i8 sports car significantly reduces the weight of the vehicle and the size of its frame, giving designers more flexibility and creating more interior space for passengers, said Richard Kim, who designed the exteriors of both vehicles. The material, used in the aerospace sector and also for high-end bicycles, is valued for its strength-to-weight ratio. Its uses are expanding, however, and engineers are designing everything from camping equipment to pool cues.

For the German automaker, it allowed for more glass where there is traditionally metal, Kim said. The doors of both vehicles are mostly made of glass, along with much of their roofs and tail ends. BMW said the car offers “superb safety in the event of a collision.” The final product may not appear as dramatic, but will have the same feel as the concept cars, Kim said. “You may not see as much glass, but you will be able to see the light coming through,” Kim said at a sneak peak event Wednesday in New York. The cars officially debut next week at the Los Angeles auto show.

The i3 is expected to go into production in 2013, with production of the i8 following a year later. The cost of the car has yet to be determined, though carbon fibre is not cheap. The four-door i3 is designed for urban driving, with its wheels pushed out to the corners of the frame for stability. It has coach-style doors, with rear and front doors swinging open at the centre of the vehicle.

The added stability of carbon fibre allowed designers to eliminate the support pillar traditionally found between the front and back doors, which will make it making it easier to enter and exit the vehicle, Kim said.

Karachi:

Dr Ramesh Kumar, a former member of provincial assembly and chief patron of Pakistan Hindu Council, confirmed that Dr Ashok, Dr Naresh, Dr Ajeet and Dr Satia Paul were killed by armed assailants while working in their clinic.

“This is not the first time such an incident has taken place where members of our community have been targeted. What is of concern is that the law enforcement agencies tend to support the criminals involved in such acts,” Dr Kumar told PTI.

“There is a strong population of around 50,000 Hindus in Chak so for such an incident to happen is bad and the government must take notice of it and provide protection to the minorities,” Kumar demanded.

Police said they had arrested two of the people involved in the killings and were searching for the other culprits.

A police official confirmed that the killings could have been the result of a dispute between some Hindus and the local Bhaya Baradari that took place two weeks back over a Hindu girl.

Kumar said minorities were well protected and secure when military strongman Pervez Musharraf was the president but now they had become prey to open terrorism and crime.

Condemning the murders, the Pakistan Hindu Council appealed to President Asif Zardari, the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Army chief to take note of the targeting of Hindus in parts of Sindh.

Now the Indian driver will have to start his home Formula One Grand Prix from the last position on the grid on Sunday.

The incident happened in Q1 when Schumacher was probably having his best lap but at turn 10, Karthikeyan was found guilty of blocking the German’s way at turn 10.

The act was a breach of Article 31.7 of the 2011 FIA F1 Sporting Regulations.

Karthikeyan’s teammate Daniel Ricciardo also got a five-place penalty because of gearbox issues but since he was ahead of the Indian by one place in the qualifying race, he will start from 23rd position.

Vettel, running on soft tyres, clocked 1:24.178 to secure 13th pole position of the 2011 season, pipping McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton by 0.296 secs. Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber (1:24.508) was third.

Hamilton will actually start from fifth position due a three-place grid penalty for ignoring a flag warning.

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso was fourth, followed by McLaren’s Jenson Button. Up next was Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, who crashed in the final seconds after hitting the raised part of a kerb. Fortunately, the Brazilian was not injured.

Pole position holder Vettel, meanwhile, said Saturday’s qualifying was not simple and that the race on Sunday will be a long one.

“I am happy to be here. The car was fantastic. In the end, the first sector was quite tricky. It will be a long race. It is a new track. We do not know how the tires respond. We will find out exactly what tires do tomorrow. Ideally we want to finish 1-2. It is going to be an interesting race. It was not a simple qualifying,” said Vettel.

“There is a long straight on turn 3. It is good to be here. It is a great race. My first time in India and excited to race tomorrow. The beginning of the race will be critical. They really have done a good job on this track. You do not see any problems here except a bit of dust. I think it is very special to be pole here,” he added.

Vettel, with 28 career poles to his name, is now equal sixth in the all-time standings alongside five-time champion Juan Manuel Fangio.

“I am proud to reach records such as Fangio’s 28th record. I am not an expert in figures. But it is great to be part of a sport with so many records. I am equalling Fangio’s and I am pleased. But I am motivated even without knowing the figures and statistics. Fangio reached 28 poles in 51 races – I reached 28 poles in 79 races.

“We have been practicing for two days to see what we can expect. There is a lot of dust for sure. We have had some incident over the weekend. But nothing has happened yet. It is good,” Vettel said.

McLaren Merecedes’ Hamilton, who will start fifth on Sunday despite finishing second in the qualifying session because of a three-place penalty handed out to him for ignoring yellow flags during the first practice session on Friday, was happy with his overall position.

“It has been a good day today for me. A pity we had the penalty. A silly mistake from myself and I pay the price. I am optimistic. My first lap was very good. Overall, very happy with my position. This is as good as I could get. The track is really great.

“The track is not breaking up. It is really fantastic to drive. Congratulations to the people who built the track. Through the session you put a bit more front wing,” Hamilton said.

Vettel’s teammate Webber felt a lot of hard work lies in store for his team.

“I thought I would be starting third, but I am starting second. It is tricky to work out the right strategy. We have to work out hard to get the best lap time out of the car. I could have done better in the first sector. But overall good job for the team. It will be a good race tomorrow. It was an interesting session. It is a lot down to strategy,” he said.

“First sector is very tricky. After that I was happy in the lap. There sere some yellow flags. But I feel much happier with the car. We are at the point of the season where we can try a few things and try to improve the car. In the end, we went back to our original strategy. It is the smoothest track in the world. It is pretty quick and exciting. When people make some errors, it will be a problem for them,” Webber added.

Hamilton’s time of 1 minute, 26.836 seconds around the Buddh International circuit was half a second quicker than world champion Sebastian Vettel, with Mark Webber close up in third.

Fernando Alonso suffered a power-drive failure in his Ferrari and was the major casualty of the opening session, although many drivers ran off the track as they struggled for grip on the dusty circuit and tested the limits as they familiarized themselves with the layout.

The Mercedes pair of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg were fifth and sixth fastest respectively in a good start to a race weekend in which the team expects to be suited by the Delhi layout.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa was seventh fastest, despite an off-track excursion that left his front wing loose and scraping the track.

Force India’s Adrian Sutil, Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi and Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi completed the top ten. The Williams of Pastor Maldonado ground to a halt in a plume of smoke after an engine failure.

Mumbai:

Salman Khan’s Bodyguard, released across 2,700 screens, created a record first-day collection of more than Rs 21crore and picked up Rs 19.3crore on Day Two. But many still expect Ra.One to rake it in slowly. “Bodyguard collected about Rs 80crore in the first five days–my estimate is that Ra.One will collect between Rs 90crore and Rs 100crore,” said Delhi-UP distributor Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts.

Adarsh said Golmaal 3, which released last diwali, also started slow due to the pujas and festivities but viewership picked up later.

“The business on the first day did fall below our estimation yet it is the highest for any film on a diwali day,” said Nandu Ahuja, distribution head of Eros International.

He too hoped Thursday’s attendance would make up for the shortfall.

“On Thursday, the response has improved. We have clocked the same footfalls as we had yesterday. With another 1/3rd of the day to go, we expect this to go up. The advance for the balance weekend to is strong,” said Sunil Punjabi, CEO of Cinemax theatres. “Primarily , two factors that impacted Day One in tier 2 towns was cancellation of shows since the content didn’t reach on time and evenings were impacted by pujas scheduled between 6pm and 11pm.”

News is that it will not be getting any cheaper, with the 8GB iPhone 4 retailing for around Rs 30,000.

The pricing is expected to be more or less in line with prevailing exchange rates. For unlocked iPhones, the 3GS starts at $375, and goes up to $849. Add a safe $50 markup for tax and duties to the $549 iPhone 4, and you’d arrive at a figure close to Rs 30,000.

As per their current pricing structure, you’re looking at a minimum $100 markup for every incremental iPhone in the line-up. Also, you shouldn’t be surprised when the present 16 and 32GB versions go out of stock soon. So if you plan to buy one in that size, now is a good time.
